The Parish of Chacewater

History

St. Paul’s Parish Church Chacewater has been a house of prayer for the last 179 years. Built during the height of the prosperous tin mining era at the turn of the 19th century. It was consecrated by Bishop William Carey of Exeter on the 2nd August 1828. The church tower is unique as it is built in such a way that it blends in with the local landscape which is proliferated with old tin mining engine houses.

Today

Visitors to the Parish Church today, will before entering Chacewater , see the church towering over the village as it were a shepherd watching over his flock. On entering St.Paul's, you will find the church peaceful and a place steeped in prayer. The tradition of the church is Anglo-Catholic and mainly traditional liturgy is used. A sign invites all visitors to kneel and pray before the Blessed Sacrament upon the High Altar.

RECENTLY:  The church has undergone extensive work to it's exterior, costing several thousand pounds. Hopefully the building will now need little work to it's fabric for years to come.  The church council has just agreed plans to replace the badly deterioted lighting.

The church is ideal for big occasions and the vicar has recently celebrated his twenty years as a priest with a memorable Solemn concelebrated Eucharist at St Paul's.

Things of Interest

The barrel roof  is separated from the aisles by arcades of granite arches and polyphant piers. The pulpit of serpentine marble is in memory of George Wilkinson, once Bishop of Truro. The oak statue of St.Paul, originally a lectern, was executed by Harry Emms. The beautiful and colourful stained glass window was installed by Pearson, having come from the old parish church of St.Mary, which was transformed into Truro Cathedral. The theme of the window is a missionary one. it depicts the figure of Our Lord, St.Philip, St.John, St.James the less and St.Simon the Zealot. In other windows in the side of the church you will find Our Lady with child, Martha, a first world war soldier, St. Francis of Assisi and Dorcas. The statue of Our Lady with child came from the convent at St.Mary's, Buxted, Sussex and was installed in the year 2000 when the Lady chapel was created.
